Western Digital Launches WD Sentinel DX4000 Small Office Storage Server in India

2012-06-22Mumbai -- IT News Online -- Western Digital (WD) has launched in India its WD Sentinel DX4000, a complete network storage solution designed specifically to meet the demands of today's small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs).
The WD Sentinel DX4000 includes the Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials operating system software and the Intel D525 dual-core Atom CPU. The WD Sentinel DX4000 is a centralized shared storage and automatic server-based backup and restore solution, for up to 25 devices (PC and Mac) in a network. It offers complete data protection with built-in hardware and software redundancy for all of the connected devices in the network.
With capacities including 4 TB, 6 TB, 8 TB and 12 TB, the WD Sentinel DX4000 lets small business owners expand small office server storage capacity as their business and storage demands grow. In addition, the WD Sentinel DX4000 small office storage server acts as the "on-premise cloud storage" for the SMB.
"The WD Sentinel is a one stop solution for the storage, backup and secure remote access needs of any SMB," said Khalid Wani, WD's sales director of branded business for India, Middle East and Africa. "The ability to have on-premise, as well as secure remote access to a centralized storage server provides small businesses the agility needed for today's mobile lifestyle. WD is providing SMBs with a plug-and-play solution that offers complete data storage and protection without the need for maintenance by full-time IT personnel."
The WD Sentinel small office storage server provides several ways for businesses to protect their information without user intervention. It comes preconfigured with enterprise-class drives, RAID storage protection, built-in server based backup and recovery software, redundant networking ports and a redundant power option.
Software included with the WD Sentinel provides business owners and their employees the freedom and flexibility to remotely access and share files with external employees, independent consultants and satellite offices anywhere in the world.
The WD Sentinel DX4000 provides five levels of data protection for every device on the small office network and is supported by WD Guardian Services:
- The Drives Inside: Pre-configured with WD's enterprise-class drives for durability and reliability.
- RAID: Featuring levels 1 and 5 for data protection and performance.
- Daily Backup: Automatic backup and recovery software provides daily full system backups for up to 25 devices on your network.
- Redundant Network Connectivity: Dual Gigabit Ethernet configured in Adaptive Fault Tolerance (AFT) automatically switches to second network port in the event of a network failure.
- Optional Disaster Recovery Protection: Connect to the small business cloud provided by optional disaster recovery software and store your data offsite for disaster recovery.
The WD Sentinel is compatible with a variety of operating systems (OS) including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. In addition, it is compatible with Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard for file sharing among Windows, Mac and Unix/Linux operating systems and allows businesses to share files with clients, consultants, and inter-office personnel regardless of the OS used.
The WD Sentinel DX4000 is backed by WD's customer service and support. All WD Sentinel small business customers will receive free tech support for 30 days from the time of the first call. WD Sentinel customers can upgrade their service plan to one of three options:
- WD Guardian Express: Offers next-day parts replacement service including shipping and handling costs.
- WD Guardian Pro: Offers a one year support agreement with WD service, express parts replacement and priority access to technical support.
- Guardian Extended Care: Service that extends the product warranty from the standard three year warranty to five years.
WD has partnered with KeepVault, an offsite data storage service that improves data protection for the small business owners who rely on WD Sentinel to protect their business information. The addition of KeepVault provides an integrated offsite backup solution for SMBs' most important information, providing secure offsite disaster protection. The service integrates seamlessly into the administration dashboard and the user can choose to compress and or encrypt data while backing it up to the cloud, allowing for improved data transfers with increased security. Data from WD Sentinel can be backed-up to KeepVault either real time or as per a user-defined backup schedule and the administrator can choose to throttle bandwidth to manage network performance, thus providing the SMB a hands-free, peace-of-mind, off-site data protection system.
KeepVault, a subscription service, will come pre-installed but not pre-activated on all WD Sentinel products, so customers may choose whether or not to use KeepVault as their off-site backup solution for a WD Sentinel storage server.

In conjunction with the launch of the Sentinel DX4000, WD is also introducing the SelectWD SMB Partner Program, a channel program that supports IT professionals and VARs servicing the needs of small to medium businesses. The WD Sentinel DX4000 small office storage server is available at select retailers. MSRP is Rs. 64,499/- for the 4 TB solution, Rs. 69,999/- for the 6 TB, Rs. 89,999/- for the 8 TB and the Rs. 99,999/- for the 12 TB (local taxes apply). The WD Sentinel DX4000 is protected by a three-year limited on-site warranty.
