2012-06-13

Mumbai -- IT News Online -- Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), a 3D Animation and Visual Effects (VFX) training institute, recently held its first '48 hrs -The Race Against Time' Animation Marathon across its centers for the West zone.

The contest was conducted in two phases commencing from May 30, 2012 at 12.00 pm to June 1, 2012 and the second round started from June 2, 2012 to June 4, 2012. As the name of the contest suggests, the event spanned for 48 hours and was conducted at MAAC's Andheri center.

A total of 38 teams participated in the contest and each were given a theme based storyboard out of which they had to create 5 seconds of rendered output using 3ds Max/Maya software provided and submit it to the Jury for screening and presentation.

Each center nominated a team consisting of three members who had genres spread across Modeling, Texturing, Lighting, Rigging, Animation and Render. All teams worked at the same time and same place on the same concept.

The event was designed in such a way that the participants gained a live production house experience and as the event was time - bound the teams had to compulsorily submit their best output in the allocated time. To encourage them to put in their best in a given time frame, they were provided all the relevant pre-production material, workstations, software and stationery well in advance. This created a cut-throat competition and inculcated team spirit in them.

The Thane team, 'Vanquisher' from Mumbai won the gold award in the category of 'best look and feel' followed by the silver award won by the Vadodara team, 'The Animakers' for Best Character Animation.

"Through this contest, we intend to provide a platform to aspiring animators to showcase their talent. It will give them a hands-on experience and help them make timely right decisions and excel at the career choice. To motivate the teams, winning team will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 by the jury," said Ram Warrier, Business Head, MAAC.

"At MAAC, we aim to train the students in such a way, that they prepare themselves well for a career so sought after today," added Warrier.
